Playoffs Game 1
On Tuesday January 14th, the Marcc Apparel Bantam AE Sailors were in Mitchell to face the Meteors in the first game of the OMHA Qualifier round robin. Both teams came out skating, and the Sailors used there speed to get several chances early. With two minutes remaining in the first period, Justin jumped on a Meteor defender's mistake, and scored unassisted to open the scoring for the Sailors.
A minute into the second period, the Meteors capitalized on a power play chance to knot the game at 1-1. Only 90 seconds later, Liam made a nice move at the Sailor blueline, carried the puck up the boards, and sent a pass into the slot, where Daniel buried it to regain the one goal lead for the Sailors. Mitchell and Liam picked up assists on Daniel's goal. Just 45 seconds later, Kody won the battle in front, and buried a loose puck, assisted by Alex, to make it 3-1 Sailors. With 6 minutes left in the second, the Sailors got their only power play attempt. Liam carried the puck into the Meteor zone again and, after the Mitchell goalie made a save, Noah spun and slid in the rebound to put the Sailors up 4-1 after two periods.
Two minutes into the third period, the Sailors got revenge for Mitchell's power play goal earlier. While short handed, Braeden got the puck out of the Sailor zone, and Ryan beat the Meteor goalie to make it 5-1 Goderich. The Meteors managed another goal, on a nice shot, but the Sailors were too much on this night, winning game 1 by a 5-2 score. This year's format for OMHA Qualifying, is a round robin with South Bruce and Mitchell, and the WOAA playdowns are round robin as well, this time with Elma Logan, West Grey and Mount Forest rep teams. Future games are still being scheduled, so keep an eye on this website for future action. GO SAILORS GO!
