Tournament Hardware Deserved!
On November 9th & 10th, the team attended the 25th annual Bill Batten Memorial tournament in Exeter. Eight teams were entered at the Bantam level. Therefore, 2 groups of 4 teams were established to compete in a round robin format. Within the round robin, our boys were grouped with the 11-1-2 South Huron Sabres, the 7-0-0 Ilderton Jets and the WOAA league leading BCH Ice Dogs.

In a very fast paced 1st game, Liam Armstrong notched the winner with only 38 seconds left in the game for a 2-1 victory over host South Huron. The BCH Ice Dogs were next up later that same day. In another closely contested battle, the Sailors came out on top with a 3-1 victory. After BCH took a 1-0 first period lead, the team fought back with 2 goals in the second and 1 in the third to secure the victory. Goal scorers were Chad Treble, Cody Treble and Nathan Helesic.

The last round robin game on played on Sunday pitted the boys against a very strong Ilderton squad. Both teams were 2-0, so the winner earned a trip to the Championship game. In what was a very exciting and well played game, the two teams battled to a 0-0 draw. However, due to Ilderton scoring 15 goals in the 2 games prior to this one, they were granted the birth in the tourney final where they went on to defeat Ridgetown 2-0. The focus and disciplined play shown by all Goderich players in this game deserves noteworthy mention. Once again, the Sailors received stellar goaltending by Noah Smith who went on to give up only 3 goals in 4 games, playing the entire tournament.

Finally, in the "Battle for the Bronze", the locals were matched up against the current Shamrock North Division leaders Lucan Irish. Darren Lockie set the tone early with a couple of excellent body checks and scoring the games first goal. The boys continued to apply lots of pressure, but were stymied by excellent Lucan goaltending. The Irish never quit and were finally able to beat Noah with 3 minutes left in the second period to tie the game. The boys dug deep in an effort not to go home empty handed and Jack Morris was able to score the winner with only 2:58 left on the clock. Kody Treble then salted the victory with an empty netter for a 3-1 final score.

In the end, just an excellent effort from every single player on the team! Good job boys.
