Outstanding Effort Despite the Odds!
January 15 – Goderich
at BCH Ice Dogs. The time finally came to face the
formidable and virtually undefeated BCH Ice Dogs team on their home ice. The Sailors started the game with
strong offensive and defensive pressure that paid off with 2 first period goals
– with Remi and Ryan trading 1 goal and 1 assist each! Goderich continued the pressure into
the second period and kept their 2 goal lead until the 2:31 mark of the period
when BCH landed their first of many power play goals. Going into the third period 2-1, the Ice Dogs were rabid for
the win and came out fighting.
Unfortunately, the Ice Dogs continued to have considerable help from bias referees who made some very questionable calls against Goderich throughout the game. The BCH power plays that ensued were all the Ice Dogs needed to pull ahead and land 5 goals in the third period. On the last brutal call by the refs (where the refs were legitimately credited with the assist for the BCH goal), Coach Shaun couldn't take it anymore - and with MUCH support, voiced everyone’s frustration towards the refs with extreme prejudice! In the end, the kids played an awesome game - despite the odds that were stacked against them. With some improvement in their positioning, they will be a force to be reckoned with in future games. Great work Sailors!
