Sailors vs. Sailors = Nailbiter Victory!
January 10 – Atom 1
versus Atom 2. With friendly school chum and
coach rivalries at play, the two evenly matched Goderich Atom teams faced off
for their first official game of the season - and put on one heck of a good
show for their fans! Our
team came out strong in the first period with two goals – the first on a nice
wrist shot by Curtis (assisted by Adrien and Remi) and the second on a top
shelf shot by Ryan (unassisted).
Less than a minute into the second period, Curtis got his second of the
game on a set-up from Teethal and Remi.
Starting the third period with a 3 goal lead, the Atom 2 Team was
determined to fight back – and fight back they did!
Soon into the third period they got their first goal to make it 3-1. Ryan answered back two minutes later with his second goal of the game (assisted by Remi) to make it 4-1. Atom 2 then landed 2 more quick goals and narrowed the gap to 4-3! Ryan got his hat trick goal with less than 2 minutes on the clock (assisted by Connor) to push the lead out to 5-3. Nevertheless, Atom 2 rallied again and made it a tense 5-4 game with just a little more than a minute left. The hard work by our defensemen and superb goaltending by Tyler held off the other Sailors team to secure a close victory at 5-4. All in all, it was a nailbiter, back and forth battle – but more importantly, a fun game for the kids and fans alike. Great job kids! The friendly rivalry continues . . .
