Short Bench Still Lands a Tie!
December 16 – Goderich
Sailors at Blyth-Brussels. Due to Christmas parties and
illness, the Sailors played the other Blyth-Brussels team with a very short
bench - with more coaching staff than players! The first period was a back and forth battle between the two
teams, with some outstanding goaltending by Joey that shutdown the Bulldogs
scoring attempts. Like the first
period, the second period appeared that it was going to end scoreless as well,
however the Bulldogs landed the first goal of the game at the 1:27 mark. The Sailors fought back to tie
things-up before the end of the period with a puck scramble in front of the
Bulldog’s net that was tipped in by Ryan.
The Bulldogs came out strong in the third period with two quick goals to make it 3-1. With only three spare players, everyone predicted that the Sailors would be tired out by the third period – but they proved us wrong! The Sailors came alive and put on the pressure with a nice set-up goal from Jack to Curtis to make it 3-2. Less than a minute later, Ryan landed the third goal for the Sailors to end the game in a fitting 3-3 tie! Despite the short bench, all the kids played a great game - with solid offense, defense and goaltending!
