Tense Tie Game in Wingham!
November 11 – Goderich
Sailors at Wingham Ironmen. The Wingham Ironmen proved to be
an even opponent for the Sailors, resulting in a nailbiter game right down to
the last second of play! Wingham
landed the first goal at the 6:10 mark of the first period - but that was quickly
answered with a nice goal by Paige.
Remi then proceeded to get a hat trick and put Goderich ahead 4-1 with a
quick flurry of top shelf goals in the last 4 minutes of the period! However, Wingham fought back hard in
the second period with 2 goals to make it 4-3. A nice set-up from Ryan to Curtis put the Sailors up another
goal, but two more from Wingham ended the period in a tie.
The second period continued to be a back and forth battle with another Ryan to Curtis set-up that was soon answered by Wingham to maintain the tie. A goal from the blue line by Paige put the Sailors ahead again, but Wingham once again knocked the lead away from Goderich and managed to end the game 7-7. Highlights of the game included many tense scrambles in front of both goalies, including a mid air leap by Connor to help Joey out and stop the puck! Once again, all the kids worked together with great defense, offense and goaltending by Joey – including stopping a couple of breakaways! It was definitely an entertaining game for the parents!
