Kinsmen Pee Wee AE Sailors Start Strong
Saturday the Goderich Kinsmen Pee Wee AE Sailors opened the 2011-2012 hockey season in Listowel. The game was a high-scoring, see-saw battle, that saw the Kinsmen Sailors come away with a win.
The Sailors jumped to a quick two goal lead when Chris G scored unassisted, followed by Kyle L, on a nice pass from Tristan R. Listowel responded before the end of the first, but the Sailors held a 2-1 lead at the break. The lead wouldn’t last though, as Listowel tied it up early in the second period. Owain S gave the Sailors the lead back, with an assist to Noah C. After Listowel evened things up, Chris scored his second, assisted by Dwyer B, to give the Sailors a 4-3 lead. Listowel tied it up again shortly after, but a power play goal from Kyle, assisted by Braeden, and an even strength marker from Chris, assisted by Noah and Kyle allowed the Kinsmen Sailors to hold a 6-4 lead after 2 periods. Listowel wouldn’t give up, and pulled within one goal, early in the third, but the Sailor offence took over and put the game out of reach. Kyle scored his third with assists to Chris and Noah. Braeden then scored the eventual winner, from Mitchell R and Brady G. Justin L rounded out the scoring with an assist to Chris. Final score was 9-7 Sailors. A big win in their first game as a team.
The next day, the Kinsmen Sailors were home to face the Blyth-Brussels AE team. The two teams seemed evenly matched through the first period, with only a goal from Braeden, assisted by Noah, providing a difference. The second period was very different as the Sailor offense exploded for 4 unanswered goals. Braeden scored his second of the game on the power play, with an assist to Justin. Noah converted a nice passing play from Brady and Braeden. Chris scored assisted by Dwyer. Justin scored assisted by Braeden, to give the Kinsmen Sailors a 5-0 lead after 2 periods. Noah opened the scoring in the third period, with his second of the game again assisted by Brady and Braeden. Justin got his second goal, a short-handed effort, with assists from Owain and Chris. With only 24 seconds left, Chris also scored his second of the game, assisted by Dwyer, giving the Sailors an 8-0 lead late in the game. Blyth-Brussels scored a power-play goal with only 10 seconds left to ruin Tanner’s shutout bid. The 8-1 final score was testament to the great work of the offense, but more to the great goaltending of Tanner and solid defense from Troy P., Tristan, Dwyer, and Kyle.
Next action for the Kinsmen Pee Wee AE Sailors is Friday night in Zurich, before they return home Sunday October 23rd, to face Milverton’s Rep team.
