Goderich Lions PeeWee Rep Start Season Strong
The Goderich Sailors PeeWee Rep Team started their season early with the first game having the team travel to Saugeen Shores on Saturday, Sept.24th immediately after try-outs without even a practice under their belts.  The game was full of end to end action with the Sailors putting most of the pressure on the storm throughout the game.  The Team used the game as a learning experience with new teammates, new positions for some as well understanding the new regulations. The Sailors came up short losing 5-3 but the end result did not represent the effort or the continuous pressure applied by the team.

On Oct. 4th the team hosted the Kincardine Kinucks for exhibition play. The team quickly showed their pace and willingness to work as a Team taking it to the Kinucks in a 7 – 1 victory.  Oct. 10th the team traveled to Mitchell for their first regular season game.  The first period was a hard fought end to end battle with both teams coming out scoreless.  Midway through the second the Sailors found the answer with solid teamwork and effort by all scoring 7 min. in. Both teams would find penalty trouble through the remainder of the period but Goderich used it to their advantage scoring another 2 goals heading into the third with a 3 goal lead.  The team didn’t let up and continued to improve their game as a team notching 4 more goals to make the final score 7 – 0 for the Sailors.
The team would then travel to Tiverton on Oct. 16th to meet Kincardine in their first regular season play.  The Sailors again dominated the Kinucks with great teamwork from the offence, defence and again solid goaltending.  As the Kinucks would become frustrated and stared taking penalties the team kept their focus and took the game by a score of 9 – 2.  On Oct.18th the BCH Ice Dogs would come to town and give the Sailors  their first real test. The game in all was good fast pace, clean hockey game by both teams with very few penalties to either.  The first period would be scoreless however the Ice Dogs would get on the board just 44 seconds into the second period.  Both teams continued playing a hard end to end game with the score remaining the same until midway through the third when the Sailors would answer back to tie up the game. The game would finish in a well deserved by both Teams in a 1-1 tie.
The Sailors would then invite the South Huron Sabres to town on Fri. Oct.21st for an exhibition match at Memorial Arena.  The Sailors would take a penalty early in the first with the Sabres taking full advantage notching the first goal of the game to take an early lead.  From then on the game would remain scoreless until early in the second when the Sailors would tie the game up at one. That would seem to open the flood gates to the penalty box as the Sailors went on to get 12 minutes in penalties and the Sabres 8 minutes.  Neither team would score another goal in the second until 3 minutes into the 3rd the Sailors notched another to take a lead. Again the gates opened and both teams would play most of the 3rd period short handed but determination and Teamwork kept the Sailors pushing coming up with 3 more goals only being answered to once by the Sabres giving Goderich a 5 -2 victory.
Saturday Oct.22nd the Walkerton Capitals would come to town to square off with the Sailors at the MRC.  The first period the Capitals skated hard being rewarded with the first goal midway through the period.  The Sailors would come right back and tie it up just 42 seconds later but again the Capitals kept coming scoring a go ahead goal with just 30 seconds remaining in the period.  Early in the second the Sailors would find their game and through awesome teamwork and passing would score 4 times in under three minutes to take a commanding lead. Late in the period the Sailors would notch another to go into the third with a 6-2 lead under their belt.  The Team did not let up in the third continuing great team work and pressuring the Capitals into penalty trouble. The Sailors would go on to get one more in the third ending the game with a 7 – 2 win.
Great start to the season boys, keep up the awesome Teamwork from everyone Offence, Defence and Goal tending.
