Novice Sailors LL-Hunking, U8, 2010-2011 (Goderich Minor Hockey)

The kids capped off a great season by going all the way to the semi finals at the annual Parkhill Novice Tournament on March 12th and 13th.  With one exciting match after another, the Sailors also won close to two thirds of their games in both the regular season and in playoffs.  Thanks to great coaching and fair ice time, all the kids showed great improvement with their hockey skills throughout the season and really bonded as a team.  

Feb. 26 (Zurich Thunder at Goderich Sailors) The first playoff game against the Zurich Thunder was an exciting battle from start to finish.  Paige started the scoring for the Sailors with beautiful goal at the 8:53 mark of the first period (assisted by Kylen).  The Thunder fought back to tie things up at the 7:13 mark and end the first period in a 1-1 tie.  Zurich pulled ahead 2-1 a minute into the second period, but this was soon answered with a goal by Lucas (assisted by Connor).  Going into the third period tied up again, Zurich regained the lead at 5:20 left in the period.  The Sailors ...

The Sailors have been matched-up against some tough teams in their division for playoffs.  After starting the playoffs with a decisive victory against the Blyth Bulldogs, the Sailors were then matched-up against both BCH Ice Dog teams.  Winning their first game 2-0 against the BCH #1 team, the kids then battled against the BCH #2 team in two extremely close and exciting games.  With BCH #2 shortening their bench in both games, all the Sailor kids played equal shifts and all played some very strong hockey – only being beaten by 1 point in each game. 

Feb. 12 (Blyth Bulldogs at Goderich Sailors) The Sailors began the playoffs with a decisive 6-0 win against the Blyth Bulldogs.  All the kids played a strong game with good passing, positioning and hustling for control of the puck.  Kaleb started things off with a beautiful goal – his first!  Other goals of the game went to Kylen, Lucas, and Joseph, with assists by Connor, Ethan, Sam, Paige and Cody.  Outstanding defense and goaltending by Bryson were also key factors for winning the game.  Keep up the hard work kids!

Feb. 17, 6pm @ Bayfield arena vs. BCH #1 Sat. Feb. 19, 11am @ YMCA vs. Zurich Wed. Feb. 23, 6:30pm @ Blyth Sat. Feb. 26, 11am @ YMCA vs. BCH #2 Sat. Mar. 5, 11am @ YMCA vs. BCH #1 Wed. Mar. 9, 7pm @ Zurich The winner of this round robin will then playoff against the winner of the North-West and North-East Divisions and that begins after March 15th. (Don’t forget we are in the Parkhill tournament on March 12 & 13)
