The Bantams came up short against the Listowel Cyclones in their first game in Listowel, but played a hard and fast game that could have gone either way.
The first period was scoreless despite some strong offence. Unfortunately, this resulted in a handful of Sailor penalties. The second period saw the Sailors exerting fierce pressure on the Cyclones, but they were not getting rewarded for their efforts. The Cyclones scored two goals to put themselves up 2-0, but at the end of the period it was the Goderich team scoring twice to tie things up. Steve De Jager passed the puck to DJ Stevenson who put it out front. The puck was inadvertently kicked in the net by the goalie, 2-1 Cyclones. Then Helesic scored a beauty from Stevenson at 1:41, to tie the game at 2. A lucky slide into the Sailor net by the Listowel team, resulted in the winning goal, 3-2 Listowel. Despite coming on strong for most of the game, the Sailors were unable to rally back and tie it up. The next game in the series, is Monday, January 24th, at the YMCA.
