PeeWee Reps Win WOAA "B" Division Lockridge Championship
The Goderich Lions Club PeeWee Rep team have finished their season on a high note, finishing 1st in the Alf Lockridge Division of the WOAA.  The boys defeated the Seaforth Stars 2 games to 1.

Coming off success at YCW and a flu bug that ravaged the team,  they lost the first game to Seaforth 4-2 on March 19,  2009 at Memorial Arena.  The boys simply did not look like themselves, standing around, and getting beaten to the puck.  Lesson learned.  Game 2 was a different story.  The trip down highway #8 to Seaforth would end in victory for the boys 4-1.  They totally dominated the game and their efforts paid off.

Having home ice advantage for Game 3 would see the Sailors take a strong 2-0 lead in the first period.  Starting off the scoring for the Sailors with his first of two for the night was Jamie Huber assisted by Rylan Lamb.    Next up was Brandon Johnston who would find the back of the Stars net after receiving a beautiful pass from Jamie Huber and Trevor Lockie.

However, the Sailors lead was short-lived as the Stars would fight back and tie up the score 2-2 heading into the 3rd period.  The Sailors, as usual would come back for the 3rd period a little flat and it wasn't long before they would find themselves in penalty trouble.  The Stars would capitalize on this opportunity to score the go ahead goal with a scramble in front of our net.

Down 3-2, the Sailors would lose one of their players, Chad Kernighan after he lost an edge and crashed into the boards, knocking himself out.  The team filled in to positions where they were required and were determined to win the game for Chad.  Down 3-2, the Sailors were running out of time but it was captain, Jake Lapointe that would "tee up" the puck and blast it rocket style from the point.  Luke Fraser managed to deflect the shot as it was going by him but it was Jamie Huber who would put the final tip on the speeding puck to launch it past the Stars netminder.  The game was tied!  Soon after the tying goal, the Sailors would lose yet another player to  a hit from behind call late in the 3rd.

Instead of getting down, the boys were determined to win the game.    They would apply pressure and with 2 minutes and 18 seconds left in the game, Jake Lapointe picked up the puck and rushed full speed down the ice toward the Stars net.  Brandon Johnston raced down the centre of the ice with Lapointe, and after receiving the pass from Lapointe,  Johnston one-timed the puck past the Stars netminder to pull the Sailors ahead for the final time.

The boys would play defensively for the last two minutes of the game and manage to hold off the Stars for the win.

The boys have had a successful year.  They won bronze at the Glencoe Tournament, gold at the Aylmer Tournament, A champions at the Zone Legion Tournament and "B" champions at the District Legion Tournament.  They lost in the semifinals of Silver Stick 1-0 to the eventual winners, the Kincardine Kinucks, were Consolation Champions of the "B" division of Young Canada Week and WOAA League champions.

Final stats for the year were 31-19-1.

Well done team!  Thanks Stan, Doug, Gerry and Lloyd for a great year.
