PeeWee Rep Team wins Gold at Aylmer Tournament
The Goderich Lions Club PeeWee Rep team won the Aylmer Flames Tournament, November 14-16, 2008.   The boys went 3 wins and 1 loss, with a 25GF/8GA for the tournament.

Game #1 - vs Aylmer Flames
The Lions Club team opened the tournament on Friday night at 6:30pm against the home team, the Aylmer Flames.    The Flames would score first but it was all Sailors after that as they went on to score 5 goals before the Flames would score again.  I guess you could say the Sailors extinguished the Flames very quickly!  The boys continued to apply pressure and were outstanding in the passing department.  Scoring for Goderich was Luke Fraser with 3 goals, Jamie Huber and Brandon Johnston each with 2 goals and Taylor Helesic with  1 goal.  Assists went to Huber (2), Ian Simpson (2), DJ Stevenson, Jake Lapointe, Mason Nurse and Trevor Lockie.  It was a great team effort in the opening game.  Final score was Goderich 8 and Aylmer 2.

Game #2 - vs North Middlesex Stars
The Lions Club would meet up with the North Middlesex Stars on Saturday at 6:10pm.  It was evident from the opening faceoff that the team from the night before hadn't shown up.  The Sailors would find themselves down 6-0 in the second period before they were able to find the mark.  The momentum began to swing for the Sailors and they had finally shown up to play!  At the end of the 2nd period, the Sailors had been assessed 7 penalties and the score was 6-2 for the Stars.  The Sailors would continue to apply pressure however they would simply run out of time on the score clock.  The final score was North Middlesex 7, Goderich 3. Scoring for Goderich was Brandon Johnston with 2 goals and Jamie Huber with a single.  Assists went to Huber, Mason Nurse and Jake Lapointe.

After the end of the round robin, Goderich would find themselves in 2nd place and they would have to play the semi-final elimination game at 9:30am on Sunday morning.

Game #3 Semi-final Elimination - vs Aylmer Flames
The second matchup for these two teams went very similar to the first matchup with Goderich winning 5-0.  This win advanced the Sailors to the final game.  Scoring for Goderich was Brandon Johnston with 2 goals and Ian Simpson, Jamie Huber and Taylor Helesic each with 1 goal a piece.  Assists went to Trevor Lockie, DJ Stevenson and Luke Fraser.

Game #4 - Championship Game vs North Middlesex Stars
The championship game of the tournament would see the Sailors faceoff against the North Middlesex Stars.  The boys were determined to prove they were the better team and avenge their loss from the day before.  They would start the scoring at the 8 minute mark of the 1st period.  It was very apparent the Sailors were "shooting for the Stars" this game.  The excitement on the visitor side of the arena could be felt and the boys would continue to play well however, the game would be tied shortly at 1 a piece.  The Sailors were skating hard to the puck, taking their man off the puck and passing tape-to-tape and the result was positive, it was 3-2 for the Sailors at the end of the first period.    The Sailors would find the twine again with two minutes left in the second period but the Stars would answer back to make the score 4-3 at the end of two periods.  This is all the Stars would see on the score clock but the Sailors would continue with their offence and score two more times in the third period to win the championship 6-3.  Scoring for Goderich was DJ Stevenson and Jamie Huber each with 2 goals and Ian Simpson and Brandon Johnston  each with singles.  Assists went to Simpson (2), Luke Fraser (2), Johnston, Taylor Helesic, Jake Lapointe and Trevor Lockie.

A tremendous effort was also put forth by Chad Kernighan, Harry Parsons, Chase Kulich and Rylan Lamb.  They would out skate and out hustle their opponents at every opportunity.

Sharing the goaltending duties were Brady Bowman and Jordan Johnson.  Brady, you played a fantastic semi-final game and made key saves at key times.  Jordan you played a fantastic final game.  Hats off to both of you.

You did it boys.  We can no longer say "always the bridesmaid, never the bride".

Well done team.
