Atom Sailorettes win International Silver Stick!
The Mcgeemotors.ca Atom Sailorettes have won the prestigious International Silver Stick. The tournament was held in Brighton and Trenton, Ontario from February 13 to February 16, 2009. This is the Atom Sailorettes 5th tournament win this season and the team remains undefeated at 48 games.
The girls played the Brantford Ice Cats and the Smith Falls Cubs in round robin play. The Ice Cats were defeated 4-0 by the Sailorettes and the Cubs, 2-1 by the Sailorettes. This would place the Goderich girls 1st after round robin play and secure them a spot in the finals with a "bye".
The final would see the girls again matched up with the Smith Falls Cubs. The Cubs are a strong team playing in the Ottawa District and until they played the Sailorettes, had only been defeated by "A" teams. The game was an end-to-end grit match that would see the Sailorettes dig deep and take the championship title, 3-2 in a come from behind win.
