McDonald's Novice Rep Undefeated In January
     Along with winning the teams first two games of the month and capturing the Lil Huskies tournament championship the Novice Rep Team won another four games during the month.  On Saturday Jan.12 the McDonald’s Novice Rep traveled to Port Elgin to face Saugeen Shores for their last meeting of the regular season.  Saugeen would get on the board first midway through the first period with Goderich answering back towards the end of the period. A hard fought second period ended with no scoring and the teams still even going into the third.  Early in the third the Sailors found their legs coming out strong taking the lead 48 seconds in but Saugeen answered back with 8:16 remaining.  The Sailors didn’t lose focus and scored just 7 seconds later to take back the lead.  The Sailors would then go on to score three more times to Saugeens one to take the win Goderich 6 Saugeen 3.  Scoring for Goderich were Nate Helesic (5), Ben Derrough (1) with assists to Kody Ritchie and Bayden Parent.

    On Sunday January 20 the Sailors faced Seaforth for their last meeting of the season as well. The Sailors came out with a quick goal in the first 2 minutes of the period.  But with super goaltending at both ends of the rink both teams would be held scoreless until partway through the third.  The Sailors finally wore down the Seaforth team and goal tender with the Sailors scoring four times and Seaforth answering back only once giving Goderich the win. Scoring for the Sailors were Ashley Bakker (2), Nate Helesic (1), Darren Lockie (1), Megan Johnston (1) with assists going to Ben Derrough (3), Liam Shore (2), Nicholas Peer and Ashley Bakker with single assists.

     Friday January 25 the Sailors faced BCH in an exhibition game at the Memorial Arena.  The game started off with both teams out to prove a point but the Sailors would pay the price ending up with two men in the box giving BCH the 5 on 3.  BCH would take full advantage scoring with the power play and taking the lead.  That would end the scoring for the period until BCH notched another just 36 seconds into the second.  The Sailors soon came alive scoring three times in the period to overcome their two goal deficit and take the lead for the first time of the game.  The Sailors wouldn’t let up again scoring four more in the third with BCH only answering once and Goderich taking the win by a final score of  Goderich 7 BCH 3.  Scoring for the Sailors were Nate Helesic (5), Kody Ritchie (2) with assists going to Ben Derrough (2), Bayden Parent (2) with Jack Morris, Darren Lockie and Ashley Bakker getting singles.

     Saturday January 26 the McDonald’s Novice Rep traveled to Tiverton to face Kincardine for their final meeting of the regular season.  Kincardine came out strong scoring the first goal early in the period.  The Sailors soon found their legs and went on to score five unanswered goals throughout the game for the win 5 – 1. Scoring for the Sailors were Kody Ritchie (2), Megan Johnston (1), Ashley Bakker (1), and Nate Helesic (1) with assists going to Kyle Larkin and Cameron Brenner.
