McDonald’s Novice Rep Tournament Champions
A late entry into the annual Durham Little Huskies Novice Tournament on Saturday Jan.19, 2008 paid off with the McDonald’s Novice Rep winning the Championship. The Sailors faced off against Ingersoll for the first game of the tourney.

The first period was hard fought with Goderich getting two goals late in the period which led to another three unanswered goals to take the game 5 – 0.  The second game of the day would be against Norwich with both teams evenly matched it wasn’t until 1:54 remaining in the first when Norwich scored the first goal of the game. But the Sailors answered back scoring just 11 seconds later to even it up.  The Sailors fought a hard battle through a penalty and injury filled remaining two periods but came up with two more unanswered goals to take the game 3 – 1 moving them into the Championship.  The Sailors would meet Mount Forest in the final and the game would start off with both teams beginning to feel the effects of a long day but Goderich soon came a live scoring two goals in the first period. The Sailors then went on to score one more unanswered goal in each of the remaining periods to win the game and the Championship with a final score of  4 – 0.

The Team played excellent hockey with a total team effort throughout every game with super goaltending by Liam Shore earning two shutouts and allowing only one goal in the tournament with MVP awards going to Megan Johnston and Nate Helesic.  Scoring for the Sailors throughout the tournament were Nate Helesic (5), Ben Derrough (3), Kody Ritchie (2), Nicholas Peer and Bayden Parent with one each. Assists went to Bayden Parent (3), Megan Johnston (3), Nicholas Peer (2) with singles going to Kody Ritchie, Jack Morris, Ben Derrough, Darren Lockie and Kyle Larkin.
