McDonald’s Novice Rep Aylmer Tourney Finalists
The Goderich McDonald’s Novice Rep traveled to Aylmer this past weekend to take part in their first tournament of the season. The first game of the tourney Goderich faced the Lambeth Lancers which was dominated by the Lancers. The Lancers came out flying and didn’t take long to take the game lead. Lambeth went on to win by a score of 6 – 1 with the Sailors only goal being scored by Nate Helesic and assisted by Jack Morris.

Later in the day the Sailors faced the Aylmer Flames. This time it was the Sailors who came out strong taking the lead midway through the first. The Sailors notched two more in the second giving them a three goal lead. The Sailors were held scoreless in a hard fought third period with the Flames getting their only goal of the game for a final score of 3 – 1. Great goaltending by Liam Shore and team work went a long way to getting the win for the team. Scoring for Goderich was Cameron Brenner, Trent Buchanan and Ben Derrough with assists going to Nate Helesic, Megan Johnston and Bayden Parent.

On Sunday the Sailors faced off against the Delhi Rockets in what was to be a deciding game on which team made it to the final. Delhi held a 2 point lead on Goderich in the tournament stats meaning Goderich must win at least one period and the game to come out ahead. The Sailors showed up to meet the challenge in what would be a penalty filled game with Goderich taking 3 and Delhi 7. The game started off with hard checking by both teams with the Sailors notching the first goal of the game with 3 minutes remaining in the period. The Sailors went on to score two more in the second with the Rockets finally getting on the board. In the third the Sailors kept up the pressure scoring two more and holding Delhi off the board and winning the game by a score of  5 – 1 and moving the Sailors into the final. Scoring for Goderich were Megan Johnston (2), Nicholas Peer, Kyle Larkin and Ben Derrough all were unassisted with again an excellent game from goaltender Liam Shore.

The Goderich McDonald’s Novice Rep Team after fighting and working so hard were now again up against the Lambeth Lancers for the Championship. The Lancers again came out on fire scoring two quick goals with the Sailors answering right back with one. That would turn out to be the only goal for the Sailors as the Lancers went on to score four more throughout the game winning the game and the Championship by a final score of 6 – 1 giving Goderich the consolation. The game was a lot closer than the final score showed as both teams deserve a lot of credit for there hard work and determination. Scoring the lone goal for Goderich was Megan Johnston assisted by Nate Helesic.  Congratulations to Lambeth on a well deserved win.
