Sailors Win Home Opener vs Mad Dogs
The Goderich Marcc Apparel Bantam Sailors hosted the Mintos Mad Dogs Friday night October 7 at the Maitland Recreation Centre.
It's said you build a good hockey team from the net out; our cornerstone, Bryson, stopped every shot he was called on to, anchoring the team and earning the shutout. Laying our foundation on defence Wade and Remi consistently broke up the Mintos Rushes mid ice, Adrien, Aidan A. and Cole worked hard in the corners doing a great job not just clearing the puck but getting the Sailor rushes started with great passes up to the forwards.
The Sailors outplayed the Mad Dogs in the 1st period generating several scoring opportunities. The lone goal of the period came at 11:58 with a solo effort from Nick from mid ice skating it in.
In the second period with a few shifts under their belts the lines started to click. 17 seconds in, Kaden put a great pass from behind the net onto Evan's stick out front, 2-0 Goderich. Evan fed Eli on the two man rush through traffic Eli finding net at 11:34. Cole's pass up to Nick started the two man rush Nick skating it in and passing across to Aiden S. on the open side at 9:52 who made it 4-0 Sailors. 8 seconds later Nick from the face off scored with the backhand on another solo effort. Nick , Jensen and Aiden S. working hard digging at the net were rewarded, Nick getting the goal and Jensen the assist at 7:35. Remi's solo effort at 3:37 closed the 2nd period, the goalie knocking down his hard wrist shot to the ice with the blocker glove but the puck still had lots of momentum and continued in.
The Sailors continued to dominate in the 3rd with great puck movement and passing in the offensive zone. At 8:09 a toe-tic-tac-tic-toe goal started with the 3 forwards to the left middle and right of the net, Jensen passed to Aiden S. to Nick back to Aiden S. to Jensen who popped it in the now open side of the net. At 5:22 Nick took a snap shot from the hash marks Jensen at the net gave the goalie no chance with a well executed deflection his 2nd goal of the night. The Sailors final goal came with 44 seconds left during a shift change. Jensen skating off the ice passed to Aiden S. who skated in and flexed the mesh with a hard wrist shot from the hash marks his 2nd goal of the night. Final 11-0 Sailors.
The Marcc Apparel Bantam Sailors are back in action at the MRC this Friday October 14th at 6pm hosting the Seaforth Stars. Come out and cheer them on.
