January 24 – Zurich
Thunder at Goderich Sailors. After a tie game on the Zurich Thunder’s home ice, the
Sailors turned into a scoring machine on their own home ice with a decisive
12-1 victory. Alex led the pack
with a total of 6 goals, and Justin was the playmaker with 5 assists and 2
goals of his own. Other goals of
the game went to David (1), Lucas (1), Josh (1) and Logan (1). The defensive lines also played
a pivotal role in the one-sided score, with an outstanding effort in keeping
the Thunder out of Goderich’s end.
Mike also stopped a number of Zurich shots with some nice glove and
blocker saves.
The highlight of the game was ‘loaning’ Tom to Zurich with 3.5 minutes left on the clock (due to an unfortunate injury of the Zurich goalie). With great cheer from his teammates and loyal fans, Tom defended the Thunder’s net like it was his own. However, his buddies were determined to make him work for it with goals by Josh, Alex - and a ‘coast to coast’ break by Nathan that was tipped in by Logan. It was a strong and fun game for the Sailors and a good morale boost before their final regular season game this Friday - and for going into the playoffs.
