Sailorettes Win First Tournament of the Season
The Legion Ladies Auxillary PeeWee ``A`` Sailorettes won the Festival City Cup in Stratford on Nov 26-28, 2010.
Hard work is paying off as the girls won 4 out of 5 games. In round robin play, the girls defeated the Aurora Panthers 2-1, the London Devilettes 5-2. The suffered their first and only loss of the tournament to the Stratford Aces on Saturday at noon. After round robin play, the girls would finish 2nd with 15 points behind the London Devilettes with 16 points.
The semi-final game would see them matched up against the Stratford Aces for the 4th time this season. The game would stay tight until the 3rd period however, the Sailorettes would clinch the victory with a 2-0 win.
The final game saw a re-match of the Sailorette-Devilette game. The girls knew they would have to play strong and smart to defeat the big and strong Devilette team for the 2nd time. The game remained scoreless until the 3rd when the Devilettes winger found herself in the perfect spot for a rebound. Instead of giving up, the Sailorettes dug deep and tied it up with 6 minutes left in the 3rd. Both teams continued to apply pressure but with 4 minutes left in the game, the Sailorettes would get the go-ahead goal and would ultimately hold on for the victory and their first tourament win of the season.
