Notes
The Goderich Sailors were defeated 4-2 in their final exhibition game against Huron Bruce.
The Sailors jumped out to 1-0 lead on a goal by Evan McBride the goal was unassisted, but the puck movement down low from Brock Bazinet and Kaden Powell deserves a mention on this goal. The play started right form the offensive zone faceoff with sustained pressure. McBride buried the puck from a tough angle. Huron Bruce scored with five minutes left in the first period to even the score at one apiece after the first period.
Huron Bruce scored two unanswered goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
The Sailors cut the Huron Bruce lead down to one with a nice burst of speed from Bazinet who was eventually hauled down on the play. The referee had his arm up for the penalty, but Mitchell Hodges gained possession of the puck and buried the puck behind the Huron Bruce goaltender. Less than a minute later Huron Bruce went up by two again with a rocket that found its way to the top shelf of the Sailors net.
The Sailors thought they had pulled to within one again when Mason Phillips scored on a loose puck scramble in front of the Huron Bruce net. The referee waved off the goal because he had blew the whistle before the loose puck had entered the net.
Eric Volland and Carson McNeil once again split the duties in net. Both goalies played exceptionally well in both exhibition games.
The Sailors walk away with 3-3 tie against Blyth/Brussels and a 4-2 loss to Huron Bruce in exhibition play. Up next for the Sailors is their first regular season game in Listowel on Sunday, October 17 at 8:30 pm.
