ATOM LL WIN IN HENSALL

On January 12th the Goderich Atom Local League Sailors travelled to Hensall for a match up against the BCH Ice Dogs.

The first period was an indication that defense was going to be the story of the day, as the majority of the play was contained to the neutral zone in a back and forth battle which ended in a 0-0 tie after ten minutes.

A short bench for the sailors proved to be a non-factor, as every play continued in the second period with a rentless tenacity, reminiscent of the '89 Calgary Flames.  The first goal of the game came as a result of a goal mouth scramble following a shot by Adam Roulston.  Both wingers, Caden Beange and Luke Evans got shots at the rebound before it was buried by Evans.  Goderich added to the score soon after with a goal by Spencer Wright and the 2nd period ended 2-1.

The third period started where the previous two periods left off, with end to end action dominating the highlight reel.  Both Goderich goalies, Mathew Blok and Tyler Tiesma unconsciously blocked and redirected shot after shot, to hold BCH to one goal for the duration of the contest.  Supporting that foundation for the Sailors, defensemen Adam Roulston, Ciaran Fitzgerald and Owen McGee proved that a solid defense is the heart and soul of any teams offense, thus earning the games three star selection.

The line of Beange and Evans, centered by Theron Robinson split the offensive load with the second line of Aidan Spetman, Spencer Wright and Cole Wheeler, who added one more tally on a backhanded top corner snipe by Spencer for insurance, and the game ended with a 3-1 victory for the Sailors.

With two games remaining in the regular season, the Atom Local League Sailors are riding a two game winning streak and are showing a team cohesion that will carry them well into the playoffs.
