Silver Stick Internationals
January 5-8, 2012, the Goderich Kinsmen Pee Wee AE team, became the first boys team to participate in an International Silver Stick in over a decade, when they traveled to Niagara Falls to play in the Pelham AE Silver Stick Championships. The boys battled hard against great odds, a tough schedule, and an even tougher group in pool play. They became the first boys team to win an International Silver Stick game, when they out-scored, and out-hustled Boulder, Colorado for a 3-1 win. Unfortunatley, a tie breaker rule (head to head record) awarded Cleveland, Ohio the quarter-final birth. There were several highlights to the weekend, the biggest being just playing in this prestigious event, representing their team, sponsor, town, region and country in International Play. The boys can also boast one of the fastest goals in the tournament, as Noah, Braeden, and Owain combined to score just 7 seconds into the Boulder game. Another big honour was a ceremonial face-off between Sailor captain Justin, and the host Pelham's captain, at the opening ceremonies. Kudos to the boys for being great ambassadors for the town, as they answered several questions about the town and the F3 tornado.
The team would like to thank the Executive of Goderich Minor Hockey and our very generous sponsors, the Goderich Kinsmen, for their support, which allowed us to attend this event.
