Sailors Win Silver in Pentanguishene!
Submitted By Mike Pullen on Tuesday, February 22, 2011
Building on an impressive regular season record of 13-5-1, the boys traveled north on February 19 to win Silver in the A Championship at the annual Pentanguishene Winterama Hockey Tournament.  The Sailors began the tournament with an exciting game against the Elmvale Coyotes.  Alex landed the first goal for Goderich, assisted by Ryan.  Lucas landed 2 more goals for the Sailors, both assisted by Tyson C. to secure the game with a 3-1 victory.  The Sailors then went up against the Penetang Flames with a decisive 9-0 win.  Goals and assists of the second game went to Alex, Tyson C., Ryan, Michael (way to go Michael!), Nathan, Justin, Lucas and Christian.

The A Championship game pitted the Sailors against the top ranked Staynor Cyclones.  Both teams battled back and forth in the first two periods, keeping the score at 0-0. Ryan landed the first goal of the game in the third period, but was closely answered with a goal by the Cyclones.  Going into the overtime period tied 1-1, the Sailors continued to dominate the game, but Staynor got a lucky deflection to win the game.  Both Kyle and Tom were outstanding in net with many amazing saves throughout the tournament.  Defensemen Rory, Tyson K., Liam and Tyler also did an exceptional job holding off their opponents in all three games.  The boys all exhibited outstanding teamwork throughout the tournament.  The Sailors and their parents would like to thank Head Coach Gary Lynch, Assistant Coach Perry Bakker and Trainer Stacey Scott for their great coaching.
