Wolves Devour Sailors 5-0
The Ripley Wolves eviscerated the Sailors in a 5-0 rout at the Ripley Arena on Monday night.  The score makes the game seem more one-sided than it looked from the stands.  For example, the Sailors played a solid two-way game in the first and held the Wolves off the score board the entire period.  However, as the game progressed – the Wolves established their style and took over – the bounces just seemed to go their way tonight and the three Sailors’ penalties fed into the outcome as well.

Although we lost the game - there were still some notable efforts on the ice for the Sailors.  The stand-outs in this game were Nolan W, Camron P, Sawyer N and Kate J who each played a strong game.  Nolan worked hard at both ends – making key defensive plays (including a huge back-check effort where he stopped a break-away attempt) and joining the rush to create scoring chances.

Similarly Camron P also played very well on the Sailors blueline.  Camron consistently plays with high effort and is very responsible with the puck – he makes good decisions when clearing our zone and picks the right times to join the rush while always being mindful of the need to get back in position on turnovers.  Camron is what every team needs – a reliable and capable presence on D.

Finally, Sawyer N and Kate J both warrant recognition.  Sawyer skates well and has good positioning – but the best thing is his hockey sense and selfless play.  Sawyer takes the time to lift his head on the rush to see who is in position and he is always willing to make a pass if someone is in better scoring position. Excellent teamwork Sawyer! In terms of Kate – she is a grinder – she is tenacious in the corners and plays a dominant physical style that keeps the opposing players off their game.  Kate seems to always bring a high effort level.

The point here is the Sailors have the right tools and good players – this team can go far in the play-offs if the players gel and take their time on the rush.  Sailors - slow the game down – take your looks before dishing the puck.  Find your teammates out there and the bounces will start going your way.  Let’s go Sailors!
