The PeeWee Kinsmen LL1 had a Great Showing at the Weekend Tournament in Mitchell
Saturday
morning the Sailors opened against Dorchester, the eventual tournament winner. With nice goals from Luke and Eric, a slap shot from the hash marks by Aiden, and a
multitude of amazing saves by Ben, we saw the Sailors hand Dorchester their only
loss of the tournament 3-2.
In game 2 against New Hamburg Saturday afternoon, the Sailors came away with another 3-2 win with great goal tending again and scores from Owen, Nick and Kaden. The Sailors did not come out unscathed. The game became very rough, New Hamburg taking advantage and when it became apparent the officials would not call body contact, we saw cross checks, sticks to the head and indeed any manner of rough play. This inevitably led to the injury of a Sailor player by a New Hamburg player and Nick was unable to play in the rest of the game or tournament. No penalty was called over the incident.
The Sailors short, their regular Centre stepped up Sunday morning in a back and forth fast and tight game with Tavistock. Both teams played hard with great goaltending and the single Tavistock goal was the game winner early in the third period.
This caused a 3 way points tie for 1st place in the Sailors' division. The head to head result was a wash, Goderich having beat Dorchester. Tavistock beating Goderich and tying Dorchester in regular play. Goals for minus goals against left Goderich tied with Dorchester. Using the 3rd tie break rule, Dorchester with the most goals advanced and went on to win the semi final 6-2 vs St. George and final 6-1 vs Shallow Lake.
The Goderich team can be proud of their play and integrity in this tournament! Great effort and contribution from all team members!
The Sailors are back in action Sunday November 22nd at the Memorial Arena at 415pm vs the Mitchell Meteors. Come and cheer them on!
