Tough Loss for Atom Rep Sailors
The Mainstreet Credit Union Atom Rep team (1-14-0) continued regular season play on Sunday against the Seaforth Stars (3-10-1). Their previous meeting in November was a 4-3 win for the Sailors. Sunday's game was a 5-2 loss.

The opening period was back and forth with several chances by both teams to open the scoring. With just over two minutes to play in the period Iain was called for a body contact penalty sending the Sailors to the penalty kill. With seconds left in the penalty, Seaforth opened the scoring.

The second period began with an early penalty to Seaforth for tripping and an opportunity for the Sailors to tie the game. Goderich was not able to score, but as the penalty expired Seaforth extended their lead to 2-0.

Approaching the halfway mark of the period, Seaforth was called for an interference penalty giving the Sailors their second powerplay opportunity. However, it was short-lived with Wesley being called for slashing five seconds into the powerplay. A minute into four on four, the Stars were called for a slashing penalty sending the Sailors back to the powerplay. Again, the powerplay was cut short by a penalty to Wesley for body contact. Less than a minute later, Seaforth was called for a tripping penalty again negating the Sailors’ penalty. Neither team was able to score on the extended series of overlapping penalties.

The Sailors managed to get on the scoreboard midway through the third period. A faceoff win by the Sailors to the left of the Stars net got to Aiden, who spun around and put the puck between the legs of a Stars’ player and past the goalie. Aiden’s goal was unassisted.

The Sailors cut the lead to 5-2 with a minute left to play in the third period. The Stars were called for tripping with just under two minutes to play. Their second goal was also came off the faceoff, but from the right of the Stars’ net. Wesley won the faceoff to the right boards. Evan got the puck to A.J. who directed the puck towards the net. Wesley got his stick on the puck and send it past the Stars’ goalie for a rare powerplay goal.

Although a loss, there were some positives from Sunday’s game. Kellen played a strong game in net giving his team a chance to win with several good saves. The Sailors were able to kill off two of three penalties, and were 1 for 6 on the powerplay.

Next up for the Sailors is their final regular season game against the Kincardine Kinucks (14-0-1) on Sunday January 3, 2016.
