McGee Motors Novice Reps B Champs!!!
This past weekend saw Goderich Minor Hockey host a Novice and Atom rep tournament and what a success it was.

The McGee Motors Novice Reps has a four game round robin against North Middlesex, Mitchell, Listowel and Wallace to determine their seeding and to see if they would play for the A or B Championship.

Friday night saw them face the North Middlesex Stars. The game was fast and furious from the opening draw and after the first period saw the Sailors up 1-0 on a goal from Sawyer.

The second period was hard fought but the Stars were able to find the back of the net after Owen made save after save, sending the game into the third tied 1-1.

In the third the bounces did not go the Sailors way and the Stars were able to score two more goals for a 3-1 lead. Late in the third the Sailors pulled Owen for the extra attacker and were all over the Stars but their goalie stood strong, preserving the 3-1 win. Hardest Working Player of the Game Helmet when to Dylan who worked hard on the fore check and was a sturdy presence in front of the oppositions net.

Saturday saw the Sailors face the unbeaten Mitchell Meteors. The Sailors knew they were in tough but vowed to make up for the loss on Friday night and boy did they come out flying. Each player knew their assignment and played it to perfection. The McGee Motors Novice Reps took the lead half way through the first period when Sawyer slid a great pass to Cody in the slot who fired a one timer into the back of the Mitchell net. Only a few minutes later did the Meteors tie up the game 1-1 heading into the second period.

The Sailors continued playing extremely aggressive and sound defensively as Duncan shadowed Mitchell's top player everywhere on the ice and Owen was spectacular between the pipes. The Meteors were able to get one past Owen about half way through the period but the Sailors remained determined heading to the third down 2-1.

The coaches reiterated the importance of playing a full game and the kids came out flying to start the third. Sawyer tied it up only a few minutes into the final frame and with six minutes remaining Sawyer scored his second of the game for a 3-2 Sailors lead. The arena was a buzz as the Sailors players gave it their all on every shift in attempt to preserve the 3-2 lead.

However with only three minutes remaining the Meteors were able to tie up the game 3-3. The final three minutes was chaotic as each team through everything they had against each other but it was not meant to be as the game ended it a 3-3 tie. The Hardest Working Player of the Game Helmet went to Duncan for his attention to detail as he never let Mitchell's top gun out of his sight and battled him hard in every situation keeping him off the score sheet. Points went to Sawyer (2g 1a), Cody (1g) and Jacob (1a).

Next the Sailors faced off against the Cyclones from Listowel. It was evident the Sailors were tired from their previous game however Owen bailed the Sailors out with 3 or 4 spectacular saves in the opening minutes to keep the game scoreless. Late in the first the Sailors got their legs back and Duncan opened the scoring with an unassisted effort firing the puck over the left shoulder of the Cyclones netminder.

In the second the Sailors scored three more goals as Devlin made a great rush end to end firing a low shot past the Cyclones goalie and Sawyer and Cody also scored giving the home side a 4-0 lead heading to the third. The third period was more of the same as the Sailors continued to dominate and scored three more, one from Kingston and two from Sawyer for a 7-0 final.  The Hardest Working Player of the Game Helmet went to Dean for his tenacity on the both the fore check and back check and his aggressiveness in the corners. Points went to Sawyer (3g 2a), Devlin (1g 1a), Duncan (1g), Cody (1g), Kingston (1g), Jacob (1a) and Cohen (1a).

Sunday saw the McGee Motors Novice Reps finish their round robin play off against the Wallace Sabres. The Sailors pressured the Sabres from the opening face off as Sawyer scored his first of the game only a few minutes in for a 1-0 Sailors lead. In the second the Sailors went up 2-0 on Sawyer's second of the game however before the end of the period the Sabres scored a beauty to cut the lead 2-1 heading into the final frame.

The third saw the Sailors continue to work hard and pressure the Sabres defence as Sawyer scored his 3rd and 4th goals of the game to give the Sailors a 4-1 lead with less than five minutes remaining. However the Sailors let their foot of the gas a little too early and the Sabres scored three unanswered goals to tie the game 4-4 and that's the way this one ended. Hardest Working Player of the Game Helmet went to Sawyer for his four goal effort.

After the points were tallied, it was determined that the Sailors had to face the Sabres again only an hour later for the B Championship. The Sabres rode their momentum from the previous games comeback and scored early in the first to take a 1-0 lead. However the Sailors were not going to be out done as Duncan scored a beauty right off the face off to tie the game at one heading into the second. The second was more of the same as the two evenly matched teams battled on every loose puck. Jacob made a great play to keep the puck in at the blue line took a couple of strides and fired a beauty past the Sabres netminder for a 2-1 lead heading to the third.

Early in the final frame the Sabres tied the game at 2-2 and the teams continued to battle. With 1:45 remaining Jacob picked up the puck in his own end and eyed and opening. He capped off a great end to end rush with firing a low shot past the Sabres goalie for a 3-2 lead. The Sailors committed to playing defence the last 1:45 and preserved the win and the title of B Champs!!! Hardest Working Player of the Game Helmet went to Jacob for his two goal effort and his commitment to playing well defensively. Points went to Jacob (2g), Duncan (1g) and Sawyer (1a).
