The Midget Legion Sailors finished 2014 on a tough note and started 2015 on a good note.
The Midget Sailors travelled to Listowel on Sunday December 28 for the first of two regular season match ups.
The powerful Cyclones roared out to a three nothing lead in the first period. The second period started the same way with the Sailors allowing another goal in the first two minutes. Now down four nothing the Sailors managed to get one back on the power play at the halfway point of this period. Kody Langlois would snap one in with Cam Brenner and Kyle Langlois recording the assists.
That would be all the scoring for both teams as this would become a close checking affair from that point on. This would be the Sailors third regular season loss.
On Saturday January 3 the Sailors would play host to the Hanover Falcons at the MRC. Jared Cox would open the scoring in the first period with a shot from the blueline off a Mitch Fisher faceoff win. The Sailors would add to their lead in the second period when Kyle Langlois would score on the power play with Kody Langlois getting the assist. The Falcons would get both of those goals back late in the period to even things up.
The Sailors would come out in the third and score twice more. The first on the power play when Cole Lewis would convert a goal mouth scramble, Chase kulich would get credit for the helper. The second was by Dominic Burbine when he would take a Tyler Johnston pass and drive hard from the outside to rip a shot in. The home team would post a spirited 4-2 win which would see a total of 59 penalty minutes handed out to the two teams.
On Sunday January 4 the Sailors would head to Kincardine for the return match up of their home and home regular season.
The visitors would open the scoring late in the first period when Nic Souch would get one on the power play. Cox would draw the assist on this one.
The Sailors would increase their lead to two goals late in the second period again on the power play when Burbine would deflect a Kyle Langlois shot.
The home team would come all the way back in the third period scoring twice on the power play and then with less than a minute to goal they would get the game winner.
The Sailors from the goal line out did play a very solid 41 minutes out of 45 and come up just short against a very good team.
