Well Sailors, this will be my last official
article – and you have certainly made my job easy with a season of multiple
wins, winning streaks, tournament championships . . . and even some good old-fashioned
hockey hostilities, rivalries and drama to write about!
Season highlights include:
1) Number #1 in Division for the Regular Season.
2) Impressive 17-1-0 regular season record and 37-6-2 overall.
3) Only team in both Bantam Divisions with an 8 game winning streak.
4) Two deserving (and exciting) Tournament Championships.
5) Most creative 1-liners and on (and off) ice commentary in the league.
6) Only team to be offered an Irish Spring Soap endorsement deal . . .
A big thank-you goes to Paul, Brad, Bryan and Tyler for volunteering their time this year and coaching the guys. Thanks also so Sheri as Team Manager and Kelly as Parent Liaison.
The winning dynamic of this year’s team was evident from the first time they stepped on the ice. A team that gets along and has fun on and off the ice plays better and wins games. To quote Herb Brooks, U.S. National Hockey Coach, 1980 Winter Olympics:
“When you pull on that jersey you represent yourself and your teammates, and the name on the front is a hell of a lot more important than the one on the back!”
Boys, you should be very proud of an outstanding season of hockey. I’ve said it once already, but I’ll say it again - you played with heart, had a great time as a team - and made this year of hockey memorable. Scores are soon forgotten - this is what really counts in the end.
