Afternoon Thriller
Sunday afternoon the Goderich Sailors Zehrs Markets Atom team hosted the Mitchell Meteors (8-2-1) in a regular season matchup.  This would be the first game the teams have played versus each other this season.

Throughout the entire game the Sailors worked hard in both ends of the ice, they created scoring chances and played hard defensively as well.  After the first period the teams were knotted up at zeros following a fast paced, action packed start to the game.

The second period was much more of the same up tempo game play the first brought us.  Goderich was able to find the back of the net with 4:30 left in the period as Evan passed the puck out front from behind the net with Jaden and Kate there ready to pound at the puck.  Kate eventually slammed the puck in for her first goal of the season, Jaden and Evan were awarded with the assists.  The Sailors continued to work hard for the remainder of the period and skated to a 1-0 lead after two periods of play.

Twenty-Four seconds into the third period Mitchell scored a goal tying the game.  Goderich did not back down and continued to skate hard end to end looking for that second goal.  The Meteors would end up taking the 2-1 lead on a goal with seven minutes left in the game.  With just over a minute left in the game, the Sailors pulled their goalie to give them the extra skater in hopes of finding that tying goal they needed.  With just under thirty seconds left in the game with a scramble in front of the Mitchell net, Goderich had the entire arena on the edge of their seat as they slid a shot just inches to the right of the Mitchell goal, missing what was sure to be a goal as the Meteors tender was still on the far left of the crease.  Even with all of the pressure Goderich was able to apply at the end, Mitchell held on and won 2-1.

Goderich once again played their hearts out against one of the top teams in the league, Mitchell is battling for second place and the Sailors put their best effort on the ice.  The crowd was treated to a very exciting game at the Memorial Arena thanks to this group of talented Atom players.

Next game is Monday night for the team as they travel to Blyth to take on the first place and undefeated (15-0-1) Blyth-Brussels Crusaders Burgundy team at 6:30.
