The Atom Rep GCCU Sailors were on the road
this weekend travelling to Walkerton and Mount Forest to round out their three
game weekend.
On Saturday the Sailors travelled to Walkerton for a rematch with the Capitals.
It was a see-saw battle in the first period with Walkerton notching the first goal of the game, but the Sailors quickly retaliated with a beautiful tape to tape pass fed out of the corner from Caleb to Mitchell in front of the net who put it past the Walkerton goalie.
The Sailors continued to play hard in the first and a top shelf shot fired by Evan left the score tied 2-2 at the end of the period.
The defensive team of Eric, Wilder, Alex and Keegan held the Capitals in check during the second and Goderich was able to dominate the period as Jacob scored assisted by Wilder to gain the lead 3-2 at the end of the second.
The Sailors could almost taste the victory until with 5 minutes left in the 3rd a scramble in front of the Sailors net led to a deflected puck sneaking by our goalie to tie up the game 3-3.
On Sunday the Sailors travelled to Mount Forest. The Sailors came out strong and played a fast paced, chippy game against the Rams. The first period found the boys evenly matched and the game remained scoreless at the end of the first.
The second period was a replay of the first with both teams fighting hard for the puck-it wasn’t until late in the second that Mt Forest was able to score.
Determined to tie it up in the 3rd Jacob was able to fire it through the five hole putting Goderich on the board.
Both teams ran into some penalty trouble this game and Goderich was able to practice their penalty kill.
Late in the third the Rams were able to dominate getting 3 quick goals to pull ahead 4-1.
A great weekend of hockey by the Atom Sailors with one night off and then back at it for another busy week of hockey.
