WOAA Lockridge Finals Game 1

Pre-game notes:
After a change in season, a change to daylight savings time, a change in the calendar; the Crabby Joe’s Atom Rep Sailors were finally and anxiously back on the ice.

Too add to the tension and anxiety; for the players, coaches and the fans alike, the game started at 8:15. Not to make a big scene, but isn’t that pretty late!

It sure is great to see the ‘boys in black’ back out on the ice.

It’s also great to see everyone again. I'm sure the feeling is mutual! Right, Pam D.

Thank you to Eli, Owen and Ben for joining the Crabby Joe Reps.

Period 1:
Early penalty call against Mitchell. Lots of rust showing on the power play unit, not much success on this one.

Speaking on behalf of the parents in the stands, its feeling a little tense with the score 0-0. With lots of end to end action by both teams, there were several chances for both teams to get the ‘ice breaker’.

With 1:23 left in the first, the ICE WAS BROKEN!!!

Cody, on an individual effect, during a Goderich line change, all alone, deep in the Mitchell end, got control of a loose puck. He deked a couple of defenders and put a back hand through the legs of the Mitchell goalie.
Goderich 1-0. Cody goal, unassisted.

Why is every time I write Mitchell, it is auto-corrected to "Michelle"?

Period over - score 1-0

Period 2:
Cody, with a heck of a move while coming in off the blue line. Faking to go around the net, he snuck it in short side.
Goderich 2-0. Cody goal, unassisted.

Comfort and ease is felt throughout the stands. By the way, is that an illegal air horn I hear?

Well, before the euphoria can really settle in like the feeling after eating a Thanksgiving turkey ( I thought I would throw in a simile to ‘spice up’ the article ), Mitchell scored.

Goderich 2-1

With time running out in the second period, Remi scored one of those back-breaker goals. It was a heck of a shot off a rebound.
Goderich 3-1, Goal Remi, assists Joe and Ryan.

Period over.

There is a feeling of relief in the stands heading into the 3rd period. There is a bit of a ‘cushion’ on the score board.

Period 3:

Early Mitchell penalty. Okay fellas, lets put this game to bed. ( I’m using that phrase since it is late right now and it is a school night!!! )

What a shot!!!! Coups went bar down! Good thing it went in, it would have taken someone's head off if it hit someone.
4-1, Goal Coups, assists Cody and Eli.

Well, the fans are feeling very comfortable now. Easy banter and conversations are heard. There is an obvious calm hovering over all Goderich fans!!

Wow, Great hustle from Joe. He raced after a loose puck, beat the Mitchell defenders for a breakaway. Joe shoots for the far post............ and he just missed.

Yikes a Mitchell goal, 4-2. Still over 10 minutes left.

Tension is back. The conversations about buying ‘Mom’ hockey shirts and whether the air in a horn runs out are no longer heard. There is some shifting in the seats, definite tension is back.

8 minutes left, and not much has changed in the stands. There is some fidgeting and restlessness. If only the Goderich fans could be as calm and cool as the bench staff. Man; Coach Shawn, Coach Tim, Coach Derek and Coach Andrew, look as calm as surgeons standing over an operating table!! ( There is my ‘call’ out to you guys!!! ) Another use of a simile by the way, if any one is counting.

With just over 3 minutes left, Ryan squeaked one through the 5 hole
Goderich 5-2, Goal Ryan, assist to Cody.

Life is good in the stands

Oh no, a Goderich penalty with 2:33 left. Some unease and nervousness has returned to the Goderich supporters. I’m sure the Goderich fans are starting to feel as nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs ( Simile no. 3 )

The Crabby Joe’s Atom Rep Sailors calmly killed off the penalty and what was left in the game.

Game over.
Crabby Joe Atom Reps win 5 - 2!!!

Time to get home, since it is a school night!!! Make sure no one gets a speeding ticket. I know Rhonda and I won’t!!!
