Monkton fought hard but we fought harder in this 4-3 win for us. We overcame some team illnesses and ice conditions that were soft to the point of the puck barely being able to slide. If anyone had been keeping track of the shots on net they would have seen that we deserved to win this game. Tyler Hulley played an amazing 3 point game even though playing with a bad hand, Graham Roth had more breakaways than you could count, and Erin Hastie stood out by seeming to be everywhere; stopping rushes and making great defensive plays.
The first period remained scoreless but with a few heart stopping moments. Monkton opened the scoring in the second period netting two goals with 5:19 and 3:29 left in the second. Graham Roth got us back in the game by scoring one with 2:21 left in the second, assisted by Brendan Frayne, and Tyler Hulley to end the second period 2-1.
Monkton then struck again with 13:45 left in the 3rd to lead us 3-1. It was time for our team to show them what we’re made of, and we did by catching fire. First it was Tyler Hulley with 12:28 left, assisted by Samuel Hartin, and Curtis McCabe. Then Graham Roth tied it up with 11:30 left, assisted by Jamie Pritchard, and Rory MacLennan. Finally with 6:09 left in the game Tyler Hulley scored the game winner unassisted. The team then hung tough defensively to shut Monkton out for the remainder of the game and come away with a 4-3 final. The team fought hard, and wasn’t discouraged by being behind in the early going. It’s a tough way to win when you have to come from behind, but our guys showed that if you don’t give up, anything’s possible. WAY TO GO TEAM!!!!
