An exciting weekend of hockey!
It was a great weekend of hockey for the Novice local league #2 team.
It started Saturday with a home game against Zurich. The team started out strong with a quick goal from Peyton McEwen assisted by Caden Beange, and added another a couple minutes later from Jacob Stinson assisted by Ben Gillam.

The first period saw the team’s first power play of the season when Zurich was called for too many men on the ice. The team had a few good chances, but unfortunately Zurich jumped on a loose puck and scored a shorthanded goal.  The team stood strong for the next few minutes with some excellent defence from Jaxon Hunking, Eric Moore, Adam Roulston, and Peyton McEwen, but unfortunately Zurich tied it up at the end of the first period.
Goderich jumped on top again early in the second period with a lone effort from Eli Gillam. Goderich killed a power play later in the period, but the tide started to turn shortly after, when one of Zurich’s better skaters got his legs and scored his first of four goals.
The third period saw Jack Little stand strong in net and make some outstanding saves, but the hot stick of #11 for Zurich was just too much and he continued to score 3 goals in the period. All the Forwards including Eric Volland, Evan McBride, Matthew Blok, Theron Robinson and Logan Goddard-Potruff tried their best to mount a comeback, but in the end Goderich was defeated with a final score of 6-3.

There was no time for getting down though as the team travelled to Kincardine for an exhibition game Sunday morning. The game started out slowly even though both teams had some excellent chances. Jack Little stood tall in net again and stopped several good scoring chances. Goderich kept pounding away and were finally awarded with an unassisted effort from Eric Volland.   The second period saw some great offensive pushes from Evan McBride, Logan Goddard-Potruff, Theron Robinson, Jacob Stinson Caden Beange and the rest of the forwards. They were finally rewarded with a goal from Eli Gillam assisted by Adam Roulston. The third period saw more of the same with some stand up defence from Jaxon Hunking, Ben Gillam and the rest of the defensive core. Goderich put the icing on the cake with Eli Gillam’s second goal of the game, assisted by Eric Moore. The game ended 3-0 for Goderich and Jack Little’s first carrier shutout.
All the players are really starting to click together and play their positions well. I predict a strong season with things only getting better as everyone learns their positions even better.
