The Atom LL Sailors traveled to Blyth Thursday night to meet up with the Bulldogs for their first match up of the season.
Goderich came out strong when Lucas Sykes brought the puck in over the blue line and took hard shot on net. Owain Sykes was there for the rebound, scoring the first goal of the game. This goal was quickly followed with another when, after a determined scramble in front of the Bulldog net, Thomas Kubic scored on assists by Owain Sykes and Jamie Perrault.
The second period was more of the same. Great goal-tending by Kyle Prouse and some fantastic defensive work by Goderich kept Blyth off the scoreboard. Both teams kept up the pressure with some fast paced back and forth play until late in the 2nd when Owain Sykes scored his second of the game on a fantastic pass from Nathan Erb. One minute later the boys went up 4-0 on a heads up play by Tyson Carter who assisted on a goal by a tenacious Noah Smith.
The Bulldogs weren’t ready to give up however and they came out fighting in the 3rd period. The Bulldogs scored two quick goals in the middle of the 3rd to keep their hopes alive but Noah Smith sealed their fate late in the 3rd when he scored an unassisted goal on a fast break-away.
The coaches and the parents were very proud of the boys. EVERYONE played a fantastic game and contributed to another well-earned win.
