In the Midget Girls' Tournament
in Paisley this weekend, the Goderich Sailorettes won the title of WOAA Tournament Finalists
.
In game one, the Sailorettes edged Honeywood 3-2. Michelle Kelly opened the Goderich scoring early in the first period. Kelly's goal was assisted by a pass from Danielle Bean. In the second period, Bean rocketed a shot into the Honeywood net from the blueline. Emily Gordon assisted Bean's goal. Jaden Mitchell scored the game winning goal early in the third period with assists from Emily Gordon and Danielle Bean.
The Midget Girls won an upset 5-2 victory over Mildmay in game two. The Sailorettes trailed by one goal until late in the first period when Emily Gordon fired a shot from the slot to tie the game. Laura Smith assisted Gordon's goal. The Goderich onslaught continued into the second period as Julia Huber scored the next goal with an assist from Michelle Kelly. Taylor Pritchard and Kelsa Curran ably assisted Jessica Ryan's goal. Ryan's goal would prove to be the game winner. Goderich scoring was rounded out in the third period with a pair of goals scored by Jacqueline Martin. Jaden Mitchell and Julia Huber abetted Martin's first goal. Martin's second goal was scored with help from Michelle Kelly and Emily Gordon.
Despite excellent goal tending by Jessica Yates, the Sailorettes suffered a 3-0 loss to Mount Forest in the Championship game. With great teamwork, the Sailorettes finished the tournament as WOAA Midget Finalists.
