Goderich Sweeps Walkerton in Round 2
It was a nail bitter but the Goderich Midget Rep team won their second playoff game against the Walkerton Capitals 4-3 in overtime on January 26 in Walkerton. William Kelly scored the first goal for Goderich and 4 seconds later Coy Kulich scored the second – this would be the first of three goals that Kulich would score during the game including the overtime goal.
Special mentiongoes out to our exceptional defensemen, which includes Dean Reynolds, CoryTroudeau, Aaron Voskamp, Tyler Durst, Kody Kohnert and Pat Kelly. It is becauseof their determination, aggressive plays and hard hitting which allows ourforwards to capitalize on scoring. Thanks for doing such a first-rate job everygame. Goderich goalie Lucas Denomme made some outstanding clincher saves throughout the game to earn the win. The team played at home on Thursday nightwrapping up the series against Walkeron in three straight games. William Kelly and Andrew Hogan-Cann gave Goderich a 2-0 lead in first period. But it wasshort lived when Walkerton came right back with two goals of their own tying thegame up. Shawn Gethke made a spectacular save with 29 seconds left in theperiod to prevent Walkerton from taking the lead. The second period sawHogan-Cann getting his second goal of the game and Adam Lamb, with some nicepuck handling, put Goderich back up to a two goal lead. Walkerton scored inthe last minute of the 2nd period to bring them within a goal. The third periodsaw Goderich goalie, Shawn Gethke, holding off the capitals from scoring againand Josh Martel finished it off with an empty netter ending the game 5-3.
