The Sailors won the first round of the playoffs defeating the Mitchell Metors 3 games to 1 on Monday night January 19.
Shawn Gethke played a strong game to make sure that the team didn’t have to travel back to Mitchell for another game.
Goderich opened the scoring with a goal in the 1st by Andrew Hogan-Cann from Josh Martel. In the 2nd and 3rd periods Goderich walked away with the game scoring 6 goals. Coy Kulich earned a hat trick with assists coming from Brandon Gibson (2) Shawn McColl, Kody Kohnert and Cory Trudeau. Gibson also scored a goal of his own assisted by Kulich and Kohnert. Adam Lamb and Tyler Million each scored assisted by Tyler Durst, Will Kelly and McColl. Final score was 7-1.
The first game of the second series saw Walkerton travel to Goderich on Saturday night. Walkerton struck first and played a strong first period. Goderich struggled in the 1st and were not able to sneak the puck past the strong goaltending of the Walkerton goalie. Shawn Gethke was in net for Goderich making some key saves to keep the team in it until they picked up their socks. The team did pick up their play in the 2nd period. Goderich was able to tie the game up in the 2nd with a goal from Gibson with assists by McColl and Kulich. Once the team scored on the Walkerton goalie the team dug deep and netted 3 more unassisted goals coming from Kulich, Will Kelly, and James Whitley. Final score was 4-1. Game 2 will go Monday at 9pm in Walkerton
