Word is the Midgets are kind of a big Deal
  It is April 14th about 5:30 pm and several cars roll into town with some sore muscles, smelly equipment and a championship banner stuffed in one of the trunks. They all park at the fire department lot and climb on the latter truck to take a victory lap around town as the temperature drops and the weekend winds to an end. The Huronia Midget girls have won the Ontario Midget C Championship but this is only part of the story for 18 of the town’s outstanding female athletes.    With little fanfare this year these girls quietly achieved what all other minor hockey teams dream of but this story started seven months ago as the girls Midget team signs there roster and plans there events for the year.    With several Weekends committed on the calendar the first event was the Stratford Aces Tournament Nov 9 where the Sailorettes took the Championship with 5 straight wins.    As league play is in full swing the girls traveled to Port Elgin for the Regional Silverstick Tournament Nov 23 and allowed only one goal in the 5 games of the tournament unfortunately it was a 1-0 loss to Mitchel in the finals giving the girls the Consolation spot.    Next on the menu was The Mount Forest Tournament January 11 where Goderich faced their arch rivals the Mount Forest Patriots Where a lot of bad blood had accumulated from league play. The game stayed tied after over time and went to the sixth player in sudden death soot out. This advanced Goderich to the finals where they downed Kitchener 3-1 for their second Tournament Championship of the year.    By now Goderich had become the team to beat in our district as Provincial Playdowns got under away. The Midgets were placed in a pool with Wingham, Lucknow and Belmore/Teeswater and after the round Robin Goderich emerged in top place. This now advanced Goderich to The Regional play off tournament in Belmore on March 1st. Out of Their 3 games in the tournament Goderich suffered one loss to Mitchel in Over time but when the smoke settled The Girl
