New Registration Required for Goderich Minor Hockey 2020-21
Submitted By Brad Bell on Friday, August 28, 2020
GMHI Membership

Thank you to all who responded to our recent survey sharing your intentions for the upcoming hockey season during this uncertain time. Approximately 80% of respondents expressed an interest in participating under the OHF’s proposed regulations. This is enough for Goderich Minor Hockey to offer programming for 2020-21.

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE COMMUNICATION CAREFULLY AND RESPOND TO THE ATTACHED SURVEY ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 4, 2020 TO CONFIRM YOUR REGISTRATION FOR PHASE 1 OF THE 2020-21 SEASON.

In accordance with the OHF’s recent Return to Hockey Framework, Goderich Minor
Hockey will be pursuing a 2-phase season for 2020-21. Phase 1 will be from
October-December. Phase 2 will begin in January and continue to the conclusion of the
season.

IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN REGISTERING FOR PHASE 1, PLEASE DO NOT
COMPLETE THE SURVEY.

COST and REFUND PROCEDURE
The cost of the approximately 10-week (no less) Phase 1 from October to December
will be a flat rate of $250 per player (GMHI policies for multi-player discounts as recently
passed still apply), and will include 2 hours of local ice per week (subject but unlikely to
change due to restrictions on tournaments, etc that may interrupt regular ice times).
Players confirming registration by September 4, 2020 will receive a refund of all fees
paid (registration, try-out and cash calendars) except the remaining $250 fee. Players
not confirmed by September 4, 2020 will receive a full refund of all fees paid (credited to
the card used at registration). NO REGISTRATION CONFIRMATIONS WILL BE
ACCEPTED BEYOND SEPTEMBER 4, 2020.
Players not confirmed by September 4
cannot register until Phase 2.
All refunds (partial or full) will be issued by October 5, 2020. The $250 registration fee
for Phase 1 is NON-REFUNDABLE beyond September 15, 2020 (unless ice becomes
unavailable, at which time refunds will be issued on a prorated basis).

The cost of Phase 2 will be determined by approximately December 1, 2020, and will be
age-appropriately determined to align with the hockey offered (teams with additional ice
time and officiating costs will cost more than teams without).

SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Strict safety and screening protocols have been laid out by both the OHF and the
Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA). Goderich Minor Hockey is in the
process of developing its own protocols to match or exceed those advised by the OHF,
and will adhere to all protocols (screening, distancing, etc) without exception. Any player
or guardian not adhering to the strict screening and/or safety protocols will be denied
entry to facilities or asked to leave immediately. Any intentional disregard for screening
and/or safety protocols will result in immediate, non-refundable suspension for at least
the remainder of the 2020-21 season. Masks are mandatory inside all facilities until
players proceed to the ice surface, and for ALL INDIVIDUALS ENTERING THE
FACILITY WITHOUT EXCEPTION.

WHAT WILL HOCKEY LOOK LIKE?
Players will have access to 2 hours of ice per week. There is an initial mandatory
2-week training period after which game play is permitted. We are currently in Stage 3b.
Please refer to page 8 of the OHF Framework for a summary of phases, and the
Framework's Appendices for what game play will look like. Younger players may see
more development, whereas older players will see more game play to keep them
engaged. We are currently exploring opportunities to join limited travel leagues. At this
point, we can guarantee at least local game play as outlined in the Framework, with the
hope that at least some players will be able to compete against a limited number of
other nearby centres in Phase 1. This will depend on the number of volunteers
available, the availability of opponents, and the status of health orders. Our number one
priority is to get players on the ice with other players in a safe and meaningful way.

TEAM STAFF
We will need more coaches, trainers and team staff/helpers than normal to ensure the
safe and successful execution of hockey this year. If you are willing to assist in any way,
please complete the following survey: https://forms.gle/upmsbERnVT1g7vrV9
If restrictions on numbers force us to limit the number of participants, preference will be
given to those players with adults willing to assist.

HOW DO I CONFIRM REGISTRATION?
To confirm registration for your player(s), please complete the following survey. Please
complete ONE survey for EACH player you wish to register for Phase 1. All
confirmations must be received by September 4, 2020. No late registration
confirmations will be accepted.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Getting our players on the ice is
dependent on many more things than normal this year and we appreciate your support
and understanding as we navigate this evolving situation.

Thank you
