GMHI Rep Team Tryouts and Protocol
Submitted By Alison Bell on Saturday, September 15, 2018
Upon the completion of our Preseason Hockey Camp this weekend, GMHI Rep Team tryouts begin Monday!  Please view the website calendar for your first scheduled tryout skate.

Rep Coaches should now have received the GMHI Coaches Tryout Protocol.  Please email [email protected] if you have not.

Our membership may view our GMHI Membership Tryout Protocol here:

GMHI Membership Tryout Protocol

Coaches will be adhering to the TWO DEEP rule at all times during tryouts.  This means that there will be two qualified adults supervising dressing rooms before and after ice times.  Players are expected to arrive up to 45 minutes before an ice time, and vacate the dressing room no more than 25 minutes after leaving the ice.  It is the responsibility of the coach to make this happen.

All tryout correspondence (players retained/released) will be communicated through the website.  Coaches may not communicate with players or families prior to player status being posted on the website (no phone calls, conversations, articles, etc).  Coaches are welcome to provide feedback to players and families after posting status on website.

Players are guaranteed ONE (1) skate.  After the first skate, coaches are encouraged to release (approximately) 5 players, and have the top 5 players stay off of the ice for the second skate, in order to focus on the mid-range players.  Top 5 players may return to the ice after the second skate.

All released player names, along with the names of those absent from tryouts, must be provided to the coach advocate prior to coaches leaving the arena and the roster updates being posted on the website.

The number of players to be selected will be collaboratively determined by coach advocates and coaches throughout the tryout process.  Coach advocates will have the final say in roster sizes.

Team jerseys will be provided to coaches prior to tryouts.  Player lists with assigned numbers will be provided to coach advocates prior to coaches stepping on ice (manager or other volunteers can sign players in).  Players must wear the same number throughout tryouts.  Any necessary changes must be clearly communicated to coach advocates prior to changes being made.

Coaches may select their own evaluators, but a minimum of two independent evaluators will also evaluate.  In the event of a conflict and/or large difference in scoring, independent evaluations will be binding.  Coaches will check in with advocates after each skate, before leaving the arena.

Teams will have 3 ice times for tryouts (see tryout calendar), once of which can be used for a home exhibition game (with the exception of Bantam).  Teams may also book an away exhibition game.  Coaches should use ice times between tryouts and regular season for practices, with a focus on skating and skill (and strategy for older teams) development.

GOOD LUCK to all players!  See you at the rink!  _/. GO SAILORS _/.
