McGee Motors Consolation Champs at Hawks Cup
On the weekend of January 2 & 3 the McGee Motors Novice Reps participated in the Hawks Cup in Mitchell and came away as the Consolation Champs.

There first game was up against a tough team from South Huron and the Sabres won the game 5-2. The first period and a half were back and forth as the Sabres held onto a 2-1 lead after a goal by Sawyer assisted by Cohen and Connor cut the Sabres lead in half.

However the Sabres turned it on, scoring two more before the end of the second to take a 4-1 lead into the final period.

In the third Sawyer cut the lead to 4-2 with his second goal of the game after an end to end rush, but it wasn't meant to be as the Sabres sealed the 5-2 win with a late third period goal. Hardest Working Player of the Game went to Sawyer for his hard work at both ends of the ice.

Points for the Sailors was Sawyer (2g) Cohen (1a) and Connor (1a).

That loss set the Sailors up to face a BB team from St. Mary's. The Rock from St. Mary's moved the puck extremely well and held the Sailors at bay winning a decisive game 6-0. If it wasn't for Owen in the pipes the score may of been a lot worse, well deserving of the Hardest Working Player of the Game helmet.

That loss put the Sailors in the Consolation final against the Kincardine Kinucks. The team came out flying in an attempt to revenge a 2-0 regular season loss to these same Kinucks. The team played extremely well at both ends of the ice, fore checking and back checking at every opportunity. Jacob opened the scoring with a great individual effort but before the end of the first the Kinucks tied the game at one heading to the middle frame.

The second continued to be fast paced at both ends of the rinks with these two teams battling for every inch of ice. The Sailors took a 2-1 lead with a goal from Sawyer but yet again the Kinucks tied the game late in the period at two going to the third period.

In the third the McGee Motors Novice Reps continued to press the Kinucks in their own end taking a 3-2 lead after Jacob scored his second of the game with another great effort. However the Kinucks were again able to tie the game a short time later, but the Sailors were not going to go away quietly as Connor scored the game winner with two minutes remaining as the McGee Motors Novice Reps claimed the Consolation Championship 4-3. Hardest Working Player of the Game helmet went to Jacob for his two goal performance and the "Duncan Keith" type minutes he played.

Points went to Jacob (2g), Sawyer (1g 1a), Connor (1g).
