The Christmas break provided the Goderich Hyundai Sailors with their second tournament of the year:

Game 1

An early rise for our sailors found them taking on a formidable foe from Lucknow at 8am. The Hyundai Sailors came out flying but quickly realized the Sepoys would not go quietly. A tight defensive game saw Keon battle with the Sepoy net-minder save for save. After  two periods the score remained tied at zero a piece heading into the third. The Hyundai kids kicked it up a notch and finally broke through midway through the third to go up 1-0. They then followed up with another quick goal and that would be all they would need, as they hunkered down and cruised to a 2-0 win.

Game 2

High noon at the Memorial arena found the Hyundai team back to square off with Blyth/Brussels. Unlike the first game with no goals coming until the third frame, the sailors would pop two in the first to go up 2-0! That would be all the scoring the crowd would witness as a tight checking battle ensued and the Hyundai team left the ice with a 2-0 win

Game 3

The only thing standing between this mighty Hyundai team and the championship game was the BCH Ice Dogs. Team Hyundai came out flying proving that not only could they play tight defence as in two previous games they could also light the lamp when they needed to. Tied 1-1 after the first the kids blew 4 past BCH in the second then added another in the third for a 6-1 victory

Championship Game

After 3 hard fought games and going into the fourth game of the day the Hyundai Sailors were set to face off against the Goderich Zehrs Sailors. Both teams anxious and nervous this game would be one for the ages! The referees had decided to let the kids decide the game and called a beauty, this was old time hockey and no one knew what kind of treat these two teams had in store for their adoring fans.

The only goal in the first would come from a rocket that Jacob let go from the point and Jack would be there to clean up the rebound on the doorstep to put the Hyundai Sailors up 1-0 after one. The second period saw a tight checking game between the two teams as the goalies took center stage to deny every shot they would face. The third period saw the Zehrs team draw even 3 minutes into the frame and boy oh boy where we in for a finish! Jacob beat the Zehrs net-minder half way through the period on a beautifully placed shot to put the Hyundai team up 2-1.

The game defied belief as the two teams went back and forth, the competition so fierce fans and coaches were all in awe of these young warriors. Finally with the Zehrs goalie pulled and 6 attackers to our 5 the final buzzer sounded. With the crowd going wild, the Goderich Hyundai Sailors raised their arms in victory, they where the champions and well deserved at that! This special group once again proved that not only are they winners on the ice but also off. The whole team was presented with the hardest worker helmet for this game. The whole day was truly a team effort. Coaches and parents couldn’t be more proud!
